Thinking of visiting Mount Vernon Church?
Sunday Services are at
8:30 and at 11 a.m.
~ The 8:30 a.m. service usually has a small congregation and is a quieter service.
~ The 11 a.m. service usually includes a special "sermon" for young children, who then may go out to "children's church" for the rest of the hour. This service often has more music, provided by the chancel choir and children, youth, Praise Team, or handbell choirs, and has more families with children attending. Several times a year our children or youth lead the entire 11 a.m. service.
~ Sunday school and Godly Play, Sundays, 9:45 - 10:45 a.m.
~ A crib/toddler nursery staffed by professional caregivers is offered for both services, as well as the Sunday school hour.
Mount Vernon Church is next-door to the hospital (SOVAH Health - Danville Regional Medical Center). The church faces "the triangle" where Main Street, West Main Street, and South Main Street meet.
We are an intown church, and although we have plenty of free parking, that may not be obvious.
~ There is a parking lot behind the church, entered from West Main Street and exiting onto South Main Street.
~ On Sundays, you may park along West Main Street and South Main Street. And you may park in the large SOVAH Health - Danville Regional Medical Center parking lot across South Main Street from the church.
Dress is mixed. Some will be in traditional "church" attire; others dress casually.
We have Communion on the first Sunday of each month,
at both services, as well as on Christmas Eve and at other special services.
In the United Methodist Church all are invited to receive Communion. As our liturgy says: “Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him, who earnestly repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another.” We do not refuse any who present themselves desiring to receive. Usually at Mount Vernon Church, congregants kneel at the communion rail.
Gluten-free communion bread is available; please phone the pastor before the service to arrange (793-6824).
Children are always welcome.
"Worship bags" with material geared for children are available in the back of the fellowship hall. If you need to take a child out during the service, go out though the the doors on the right side of the fellowship hall (as you face the front). Restrooms and a water fountain are nearby, as well as the nursery.
